8 Ways To Get More Instagram Engagement Overnight

Instagram can be one of the most frustrating platforms to get decent engagement on – it’s often seen as full of fakers and people who just follow you and then unfollow shortly afterwards.

But when used well, it can be one of the most rewarding platforms for your business too.

Here are 8 ways to get more Instagram engagement overnight, plus bonus one at the end, so keep reading!

1. Post Regularly
Just like Facebook, your followers are more likely to see and engage with your content if you post regularly.

At least once a day is recommended, and the more followers you gain, the more you should post, as not everyone will see every post you create.

Work out a schedule of posting that you can cope with, or invest in a tool like Onlypult or Plann that allows you to schedule content in advance for Instagram.

2. Don’t Ignore The Power Of Stories
Stories are a great way to get eyeballs for your brand. They appear at the top of the Instagram feed and whenever new content is posted, your stories will show to your followers.

It’s much easier to get seen via Stories than the main feed these days, and it gives you another chance to get in front of your followers.

If they haven’t seen a post of yours for a while, a story can remind them that they follow you and get them to check out your account.

Use interactive elements in your stories as well to grab their attention and get them to engage – polls, questions and gifs can keep them watching the whole story and not just tapping forward.

3. Engage With Other Accounts In Your Niche
This is one of the most crucial tips for Instagram engagement. You want people to engage with you right? Engagement isn’t a one way street – if you want people to engage with you, you need to engage with them too.

It’s like going to a party, standing in a dark corner and then wondering why no-one is talking to you. You need to get out there and mingle, say hi and start a conversation.

Follow other accounts in your niche and engage with them when they post new content. The sooner the better. Getting an early comment on a new post will help your comment be seen by others who see the post later and then they might head over to check you out.

But make sure your comments are actually engaging and thoughtful. Don’t be a spammer and just leave an emoji, or say things like ‘nice shot’ or ‘love your feed’.

4. Write Longer Captions
Did you know that the character limit for captions on Instagram is currently 2,200? That’s around 300 words (practically a short essay!).

One of the algorithm factors for Instagram is how long people spend on each post. So why not write a longer caption and keep them reading for longer?

Make it relevant though. Don’t just waffle for the sake of fluffing it out for 2,200 characters.

5. Do Your Hashtag Research
Everyone knows that hashtags are a great way to increase your reach and your engagement from people who may be interested in the kind of content you’re posting.

But using the right hashtags is essential. Spend a few hours doing hashtag research. See what other accounts in your niche are using and what kind of engagement those posts with those hashtags are getting.

Look at how many times the hashtag has been used overall. Bigger hashtags mean it’s going to be much harder to be seen by the right followers. Smaller hashtags means you’re probably not going to be seen at all.

6. Post Videos
An interesting stat to notice is that video posts get 38% more engagement than image posts.

Adding videos to your Insta feed can be a great way to get more views. They also get more comments.

Just make sure any videos you post are relevant for your account.

7. Know When To Post
Have a look at your Instagram Analytics and see when your followers are mostly online.

This will help you post at the right times to help maximise your reach and engagement.

Don’t just post randomly when you remember.

8. Always Reply To Comments
Every comment on your post counts as engagement for the Instagram algorithm. Even if it’s your own!

So every time someone comments on your post, hit like and reply to it. You’ll be doubling your comments, starting a conversation with your audience and driving a whole heap of engagement to your post.
